Cutting granite can be done in two ways – dry cutting and wet cutting. Angle grinders are used for dry cutting granite, while special tile saws or stone cutting machines are used for wet cutting. Let's take a closer look at both types of cutting, the equipment, and which granite blade to choose.
Granite Blades for Dry Cutting
Dry cutting of granite often leaves a jagged edge that requires additional finishing. Angle grinders with a diameter of 125 and 230 mm are used for dry cutting granite.
- 125mm granite cutting blade. Used for cutting granite 20-30 mm thick. For cutting with a 125mm angle grinder, the best choices are the 125mm granite blades Stein Pro, Duplex, Elite and Maestro.
- 230mm granite blade. These blades can process granite up to 60 mm thick. The optimal blades for such angle grinders are Gabbro Max, Elite Max, GM Stein Pro, Maestro and Elite Active.
Dry processing of granite produces a lot of dust, so for this kind of work it's best to use special angle grinder shrouds that extract dust from the cutting zone.
Granite Blades for Wet Cutting
Tile saws and stone cutting machines most often use 350 mm, 250 mm, and 200 mm granite blades. Wet cutting often produces a very clean edge that requires practically no additional finishing. A blade for wet cutting granite is best chosen according to the equipment you have.
- Granite blade for a stone cutting machine. Stone cutting machines use blades from 350 mm. For rough cutting, Technic Advanced is ideal, and if you need a cleaner cut – Marble and Premier Active.
- Diamond granite blade for a tile saw. Tile saws use 200 and 250 mm granite blades: for a very clean cut – Granite and Marble, and for a rougher cut – Granite Premium.
