Concrete Cutting Mechanics

Similar to a diamond blade, concrete is an abrasive material, making it well-suited for diamond cutting. Besides the coarse aggregate (crushed stone), concrete also contains fine aggregate (sand).

  • In a diamond blade, the abrasive element is diamond.

  • In concrete, the abrasive element is sand.

The diamond grains cut through the crushed stone, while the sand particles wear down the bond of the diamond tool, continuously exposing new diamonds. This results in a self-sharpening effect for the blade.

In essence, the diamond blade and the concrete cut each other.
