Micro-impact drilling
Micro-impact drilling
Dry drilling is usually less efficient than wet drilling — the drilling speed of dry core bits is 2 to 5 times lower.
To increase drilling speed, drilling machines with a micro-impact function are used. The micro-impact frequency ranges from 25,000 to 40,000 impacts per minute with an amplitude of 0.3–0.5 mm. This increases drilling speed by 2 to 3 times, which is significant.
Micro-impact drilling is no longer micro-scratching but micro-fracturing. Micro-fracturing requires less energy, which leads to increased drilling speed.
Standard dry core bits are not suitable for micro-impact — it is recommended to use RS-TX core bits from ADTnS for this application.
