Material of fine aggregate for concrete

Natural and artificial sands are usually used.

Types of sand used in concrete:

  • River sand – has rounded (polished) grain surfaces.

  • Sea sand – features polished grain shapes and often contains shell fragments.

  • Ravine (mountain) sand – has uneven, angular grain surfaces.

The material, shape, and size of fine aggregate grains play a crucial role in the workability of concrete.
