Can a diamond blade cut steel?

It can.

But in small volumes and not as quickly compared to abrasive discs.

Diamond grains are smaller than abrasives, there are fewer of them, and diamond has limited heat resistance. A long cut in a steel sheet cannot be made by a diamond blade, but cutting rebar or a small pipe is no problem.

After cutting metal, the diamond blade needs to be sharpened.
